Turkey Honorary Consul, Journalist Mwenda impressed by SHIPU Efficiency

In a significant step towards bolstering international investment and collaboration, the Honorary Consul of Uganda to (Antalya) Turkey, Emek Basak Eker, along with esteemed journalist and political commentator Mr. Andrew Mwenda, have expressed profound admiration for the Uganda Electronic Investors Protection Portal (EIPP).
The portal, an initiative under the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU) led by Col. Edith Nakalema, aims to streamline and safeguard the investment process in Uganda.
During a highly productive meeting, Eker lauded the EIPP's potential to revolutionize the investment landscape in Uganda.
Recognizing the portal's pivotal role in ensuring transparency and efficiency, she graciously offered to serve as an ambassador for the EIPP.
Her commitment signifies a strong endorsement of Uganda's dedication to creating a favorable environment for foreign investors.
Eker highlighted the numerous opportunities for synergy between Uganda and Turkey. She emphasized how SHIPU could play a crucial role in empowering and protecting Turkish investors. This collaboration is expected to pave the way for increased investment flows and stronger economic ties between the two nations.
“Many investors are scared to invest not only in Uganda but the whole of Africa. This is largely because they lack information. I am happy that Uganda has set up the Electronic Investors Protection Portal (EIPP) which is directly under the office of the president to guide foreign investors. I have experimented with it and it is easy to use. It has all the information every investor would want. I am here to rally all investors from Turkey and elsewhere interested in investing in Uganda to make use of this portal and it will answer all the questions you need. No need to first travel to Uganda because middlemen have been making things difficult. I also encourage investors facing difficulties to visit this portal and get helped,” she said.
She further added: “This is a great opportunity. Uganda is the best investment destination. It is an amazing country with everything you need—Sun, water, good weather and climate favorable for agriculture throughout the year unlike Turkey and young labour. I will rally all potential investors in Turkey to make use of EIPP because all they need is assurance, trust and protection which SHIPU guarantees.”
Andrew Mwenda, the CEO of Independent Magazine, Uganda, who was impressed by the work so far being done at SHIPU, applauded President Museveni for picking Col. Nakalema to head such a strategic unit.
“I want to thank the President for creating this unit. I also want to importantly thank him for having appointed none other than Col. Nakalema to head this unit. It is rare to go to a government office in Uganda and find a public official so passionate and committed to achieving official obligations as she is.
Most people in the Government of Uganda today are characterized by indifference, apathy, inertia, negligence, indifference, but here [at SHIPU] you find a dedicated team, driven by passion, commitment, self driven, motivated to achieve the correct vision of the organization. I’m very impressed about that. I have gone through this portal to see how it works, how to raise complaints, how quickly they can be responded to. I have noted the number of complaints received and those resolved. The success rate is about 95%. It is amazing that this is happening now in Uganda when there is a state of inertia,” he commended.
Col. Nakalema was also impressed by Mwenda and Eker’s insights about SHIPU.
She reiterated SHIPU's commitment to safeguarding investors' interests and ensuring a smooth investment journey in Uganda.
The EIPP, under her leadership, is set to become a cornerstone in promoting Uganda as a premier investment destination.
This marks the beginning of a promising partnership aimed at fostering a robust investment climate in Uganda. With Eker's advocacy and the strategic initiatives led by SHIPU, investors from Turkey and beyond can look forward to a secure and thriving investment environment in Uganda.
