SHIPU Mediates Successful Resolution of Land Dispute Between Local and Foreign Investors

The Head of Unit, Col. Edith Nakalema, presided over a successful mediation between Hajji Twaha, a local landowner, and Mr. Abdelrahman Mamdouh, a foreign investor representing Tabaraka Foundation, culminating in an amicable resolution that satisfied both parties.

The dispute centered on a prime parcel of land where both parties had conflicting interests. Recognizing the potential impact of the stalemate on investment and development, SHIPU swiftly intervened to mediate and ensure an equitable solution.

During the mediation session, Col. Nakalema emphasized the importance of dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding in resolving such disputes. She highlighted SHIPU’s mission to safeguard the interests of investors while respecting the rights of all stakeholders, including local communities and landowners.

The mediation process saw both parties articulate their positions and concerns. Hajji Twaha expressed his desire to ensure that the land’s usage aligns with his community and family demands, while Mr. Mamdouh highlighted the foundation’s plans to continue to develop facilities like schools that would benefit the region socially.

Through constructive dialogue and guided negotiation, a mutually beneficial settlement was reached. Both parties expressed gratitude for SHIPU’s intervention and lauded the professionalism and neutrality of the mediation process.

The successful mediation underscores SHIPU’s pivotal role in enhancing confidence for investing in Uganda as an investment-friendly destination by addressing challenges promptly and effectively.
