Nakalema emphasized that these pillars are vital to the nation’s stability and progress. In particular, she highlighted how misinformation can damage Uganda’s economic prospects by undermining diplomatic relations, which are often the foundation for future investments, “Many diplomats end up becoming investors who support our economy. Fighting misinformation is a war we must all fight.”
Col. Nakalema reiterated that combating misinformation is not a task for one institution alone but a collective responsibility that involves all Ugandans. She called on the public to ensure they are well-informed with accurate and updated information: “We need to equip ourselves with updated information to support this campaign. Let each of us make it our responsibility to know what is happening and get factual information.” She reminded everyone that the success of this fight depends on a joint effort, which is essential for safeguarding the country’s political and economic future.
Col. Nakalema reaffirmed the Unit’s commitment to supporting national efforts in the fight against fake news. She expressed optimism that the goodwill surrounding this cause will result in significant progress, stating: “We are fighting a good war because there is goodwill. I am grateful that we are in this together.”
