A Promising Start to 2025: Paving the Way for Groundbreaking Investments
The State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU) has kicked off 2025 with significant strides in fostering economic growth and facilitating transformative partnerships. On Monday 6th January 2025, the Head of Unit, Col. Edith Nakalema, held a productive meeting with JIT MAT (U), a leading regional investment powerhouse, spearheaded by their CEO, Eng. David Moller.
JIT MAT (U) boasts investments exceeding $290 million and directly employs over 30,000 East Africans, a testament to their commitment to empowering communities and driving sustainable development. Among their most notable projects is a groundbreaking agricultural initiative in Burundi. Utilizing 6,000 hectares, JIT MAT produces sweet sorghum, which serves as a raw material for sugar, ethanol, and animal feeds.
Their integrated approach to agribusiness not only addresses food security but also advances renewable energy production through biofuels, underscoring their dedication to innovative, sustainable solutions.
During the meeting, JIT MAT (U) expressed a strong interest in expanding their operations into Uganda, particularly in the agricultural and biofuel sectors. Their planned investments are poised to:
• Boost Uganda’s agricultural output through the introduction of large-scale sweet sorghum farming.
• Enhance renewable energy production, supporting Uganda’s transition to a greener economy.
• Create job opportunities and empower local communities with new skills and resources.
Col. Nakalema emphasized SHIPU’s readiness to support investors like JIT MAT in navigating the local business environment, ensuring a smooth and mutually beneficial collaboration.
This engagement was made possible through the efforts of Col. Deo Akiiki, whose facilitation of this critical meeting underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration in driving Uganda’s investment agenda. Col. Nakalema extended her gratitude to Col. Akiiki for his invaluable role in connecting SHIPU with JIT MAT, laying the groundwork for a fruitful partnership
