Col. Nakalema moves to make Airport Investor Friendly
Entebbe Airport serves as Uganda's primary gateway for foreign investors, attracting a multitude of business ventures and opportunities. However, the airport's pivotal role also makes it a target for fraudulent activities, posing a significant threat to investor trust and confidence. Recognizing this challenge, the State House Investors Protection Unit, under the leadership of Colonel Edith Nakalema, initiated proactive measures to address the root causes of such incidents.
In a strategic move, Colonel Nakalema convened a high-level meeting with key stakeholders from various airport agencies and security personnel. Among the attendees were prominent figures such as Mr. Fred Bamwesigye, Director General of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority; Brigadier General Mike Samuel Kisame, Aviation Security Manager at Entebbe International Airport; Mr. Emmanuel Barungi, General Manager of Entebbe International Airport; Colonel Geoffrey Kambere, Commissioner of Immigration Control Directorate; Mr. Marcellino Bwesigye, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration Control; SP Adam Kitatta, Commandant of Aviation Police at Entebbe International Airport; Ms. Margaret Kabugho, Principal Immigration Officer; Ms. Maureen Mudondo, Senior Immigration Officer; and Mr. Victor Baryaija, ICT Officer from the Directorate of Immigration.
Several instances of fraudulent activities targeting investors were highlighted during the meeting, including a solar power investor's dissatisfaction with the quality of service at Entebbe airport and another incident where an investor was defrauded of USD 45,000.
In response to these concerns, the team proposed strategic interventions aimed at enhancing security and improving the overall experience for investors. One notable suggestion was the development of a comprehensive plan for receiving cluster passengers/investors, akin to the protocols followed for tourist arrivals. Additionally, he recommended that the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) establish dedicated booths for special needs and implement enhanced queue management systems.
Following extensive deliberations, various interventions were proposed and subsequently implemented, significantly bolstering security measures and instilling investor confidence at Entebbe Airport. These initiatives have not only mitigated the risk of fraudulent activities but have also contributed to the airport's accessibility and efficiency for the public.
Through collaborative efforts and proactive measures, Entebbe Airport continues to serve as a vital hub for foreign investors, fostering economic growth and development in Uganda.
